Multistate Composting Milestone: GoZERO Secures Dual Licensure in Ohio and Indiana
ZANESFIELD, OH — January 29, 2026 – GoZERO Services is pleased to announce a significant leap in its regional infrastructure capabilities following a rare and promising alignment in dual-state permitting. On January 13, the organization received official approval of both its Ohio Class II food scrap composting licensure and a matching permit for operations in Indiana.
Receiving both approvals on the same day is a remarkable milestone for the team, which has been working on permitting since 2022. This development fundamentally changes GoZERO’s operational capacity and increases its ability to serve as a reliable anchor for regional agricultural recycling.
A New Chapter in Agricultural Recycling – The new licensure allows GoZERO to accept a broader range of materials, including bulk food scraps, yard trimmings, and livestock bedding. By managing these two permitted facilities, the organization is ramping up its transition to high-capacity organic diversion.
The Ohio location, Headwater Farms in Zanesfield, 35 minutes outside Columbus, officially commenced operations under the new license on Wednesday, January 21. A similar implementation is currently underway at New Road Farms in North Liberty, Indiana, 20 minutes outside South Bend, with full operations expected to begin within a few weeks as weather conditions allow.
10x Capacity Growth – This expansion represents a massive shift in GoZERO's ability to divert organic material from landfilling. While currently processing 180 tons per month, the organization anticipates that the new permits will enable a 10x or more increase in composting volume per site by the end of the year.
A Bright Future – In addition to routine operations, GoZERO is developing educational resources and a shared services platform to support the expansion of food scrap composting. The work focuses on developing reproducible systems that inspire and equip individuals and organizations to accelerate the creation of their own community-focused composting programs.
"We’re taking one step at a time on several exciting initiatives, and all indicators continue to be extremely positive. We’re especially grateful to our amazing customers who make it possible for us to do this important work," said David Andre, Executive Director and Founder at GoZERO. "Our mission is to get food scraps out of the landfill and into the land where they can support healthy soil, food, and ultimately healthy people. These permits provide a huge boost in capacity and resilience needed to make that happen".
