Be a part of Toledo’s First Compost Station!

Do you have kitchen scraps you wish you could compost rather than landfill?

GoZERO is gearing up to bring you Toledo’s first “Compost Station” in order to make it easier to do exactly that.

What is a compost station?

A compost station is a place where food waste and other compostable items can be dropped off to be composted rather than landfilled.

Stations usually focus on receiving residential food waste, have set hours, and sometimes require pre-registration.

How does it work?

On a weekly basis a volunteer will be accepting 5 gallon buckets of food waste to be composted from households which have registered. Times and places are still in the works, and you can help!

To learn more about hosting, facilitating, or even sponsoring a station – contact GoZERO at 844-467-0874 or service@gozero.org.

Once dropped off, GoZERO will transport the food waste to an EPA licensed composting facility. This much we’ve got covered!

Why is this being done?

When paired with waste reduction efforts, composting stations reduce waste and our carbon footprint.

If landfilled food waste were a nation, it would be the third largest emitter of greenhouse gases, behind only just China and the U.S.

Food waste costs the average American household over $2000 per year.

The goal is to determine if composting stations can help make food waste composting more mainstream.

How do I get started?

Register to be waitlisted (on this page) in order to be the first to know when a station goes live. Payment information will be collected, but there is no charge to waitlist.

Check out gozero.org/intro-flyer to see what items can (and can’t) be composted at the composting station.

Once you’re registered for a live station, additional information will be provided and you can start collecting food waste to be dropped off for composting!

What if I have more questions?

Contact GoZERO at 844-467-0874 or service@gozero.org.

Thanks for your interest in compost stations and sustainably disposing of your food waste!
